The Scarecrow and His Servant at Children’s Theatre Company

ows_139474992873751The latest production by Children’s Theatre Company, The Scarecrow and His Servant is a laugh-a-second show enjoyable for the whole family. Based on the children’s book of the same title by Philip Pullman CTC has done a fantastic job of bringing this story to life under the direction of Peter C. Brosius.

Dean Holt gives us another stellar performance. This time as a scarecrow brought to life and on the run. Not only does he give a tremendous performance, but he spends the entire show on stilts. Walking, running, climbing stairs and getting on the floor and back up again. I’m not quite sure how he does it all.

Brandon Brooks is Jack, the scarecrow’s servant. Actually Jack is more or less the babysitter to the scarecrow. Always keeping him in line and getting him out of trouble. These two have enormous chemistry that forges a bond and carries the show.

Gerald Drake is amazing as the evil Cercorelli. This character very much like Dr. Evil from the Austin Powers’ movies. There are even some subtle references to the movie.

Rounding out the rest of the cast are CTC members including Autumn Ness, Reed Sigmund and Traci Allen Shannon. These ensemble members portray everything from crows, ravens, cops and farmers to a judge. Among others.

In typical CTC fashion this is a children’s show, but there are plenty of jokes and gags aimed at adults that make this show fun for the whole family.

The Scarecrow and His Servant runs through April 6. For tickets or more information about the show visit the Children Theatre Company’s website.
